W07 Blog: Culture and Psychology
Your culture will influence your beliefs and your psychology. A popular practice today is traveling. Many people travel to experience other cultures. This may lead to adopting practices and beliefs from other cultures while no longer practicing traditions or beliefs of the culture you were born into.
Understanding a culture's psychology can be important in the workplace and in the classroom. As we've previously talked about some cultures believe that projects are best accomplished by a team, while other cultures focus on individuals completing projects by themselves with little to no outside assistance. A culture's psychology and beliefs may detail the different roles of men and women, in the workforce and at home.
These beliefs will affect how students interpret and interact with material taught in the classroom. Understanding how your students learn is important, but it is also important to understand the beliefs that their culture practices, so that you can weigh how that will impact how they interact in the classroom and how you can help them understand the cultures associated with the English language.
